How left-handed are you? This simple survey will tell you how left-handed you are and give you an overall score you can compare to the thousands of others who have taken the test.

You can see our analysis of the test results so far here.

So go ahead and tick the options for which hand you use for various things and see how you rate overall…

How left handed are you?

We all have our own view of whether we are left-handed or not and, ultimately, that is the the test - if you consider yourself to be left-handed then you are! That said, most people are mixed in their handedness and it is rare for people to do everything with just one hand or side of their body. Our test below will show which side you use for various tasks and how consistent you are in the use of your hands. It will also give you give you an overall score out of 100 for your level of left-handedness and you can see how you compare to other people. To get the overall score, we have weighted the various factors so, for example, writing left-handed gets a far higher weighting in the overall score than which way you hold a bat two-handed (see this page for more information on how we did this).

I cmae out as seriously (96) leftie….I too grew up in a hostile right environment (back in the day) mostly did individual sports but was highly prizes as a leftie goalie in senior hockey (safer for everyone!), secret weapon in doubles badminton and ace volley ball anchor. ๐Ÿ™‚

I agree with some of you. I got 68% but there were no left-handed scissors when I was growing up. Also, my vision is so bad in my left eye that even a telescope wouldn’t help. That’s why I use my right eye for looking through one. Fun little quiz though. I enjoyed it.

For quite a few of the tasks in the test, I use either hand, as convenient. Also when I start to do something new (as I learned to use the mouse some years ago, I learn it right-handed.
Does this make me ambidextrous? I guess ther are quite a few folks like me.

Another interesting question to ask would be about how you play an instrument.

I remember my parents going to great lengths to get my guitar set up to be played left handed but mistakenly forgot to ask me just to pick one up and see which way round I’d play it. So as a consequence on Christmas morning I pick up the guitar and put it on as a right hander would do to howls of “No! Wrong way round!” and spent months on trying to play left handed which I struggled to do as I was only 6-7 and didn’t know any better and gave it up. Only for many years later I picked up my first electric and played it right handed as it felt more normal to play that way than left handed, same with golf.

Curiously I play air guitar left handed tho! :/

I agree that age should be factored into the survey, when I was growing up, teachers would smack your left hand with a ruler and insist the pen/pencil should be in the right hand. Also there wasn’t a lot of left handers around. To teach me, I had to learn how to do everything in the right hand. I can write with both but the writing in right hand looks like chicken scrawl. I am 68% left handed.

    I’m seriously left-handed! ๐Ÿ™‚ I love being a lefty.

  7. Sue Hook says:

I play the violin right-handed, as I could put someone’s eye out if I played the opposite way to everyone else! Happy left-handers day!

I am 85% left-handed by the survey and I think where I fell down was that I kick a ball with my right foot as that is how I was taught. And also I use my right eye for a telescope as I have crap sight in my left eye. I was nicely surprised though how much I actually do with my left hand considering how growing up people try to change you to using your right hand. I definitely agree with the comments about most lefties being a bit mixed handed. We live in a right handed world and we have had to adjust to a lot of things that are geared to right-handed people.

You guys are all great! I can’t do anything right handed. It’s completely stupid.I have learened to adapt. No problem using a right handed scissor left handed. It cuts right?. ๐Ÿ™‚ No sport right handed…………..its to weak and balls go in completely the opposite direction of intention.

Left handed and proud of it!! Viva left handers Viva!!!

  10. Paul says:

    95% for me.

One answer I would take exception to would be the telephone. I always put the phone to my right ear so that I have my left hand free for finding things, writing things etc. so surely that should be the correct answer for a lefty?
