You can see our analysis of the test results so far here.

So go ahead and tick the options for which hand you use for various things and see how you rate overall…

How left handed are you?

We all have our own view of whether we are left-handed or not and, ultimately, that is the the test - if you consider yourself to be left-handed then you are! That said, most people are mixed in their handedness and it is rare for people to do everything with just one hand or side of their body. Our test below will show which side you use for various tasks and how consistent you are in the use of your hands. It will also give you give you an overall score out of 100 for your level of left-handedness and you can see how you compare to other people. To get the overall score, we have weighted the various factors so, for example, writing left-handed gets a far higher weighting in the overall score than which way you hold a bat two-handed (see this page for more information on how we did this).

Me and my husband are both left handed.
When we use one utensil to eat we both use our left hand.
But when we’re using a fork and knife together: I have my knife in my left hand/fork in right, he puts the knife in right hand/fork in left.

I scored 90% on the test, but I would like to mention that I hold a telephone in my right hand so that my left hand is free to write things down!

  3. Doreen says:

I checked use the phone right handed – because I have to right with my left hand at work so it has become habbit.
We (as left-handers) have had to adapt to a right handed world.
I use my computer mouse left-handed at work but right handed at home because the rest of my family is right handed.
So I think this test is too black and white.
And as said by others some of us were affected by people that were right handed and thought that was the only way.
I was lucky enough to have a big brother that was left-handed and encouraged me to stay that way. 🙂

We are not “left handed” we are “CORRECT HANDED”!!!!!!! (If they can be right we can be correct!)

  5. Dee Hicks says:

I’m 59% left-handed and wasn’t surprised at the score. I do most things right handed and primarily use my left hand to write. I guess it’s because I grew up in a right-handed household and a number of left handed items were not available when I was growing up.

  6. Shelley says:

I got 89%. I’m proud to be part of a select few (10%) who get to be a lefty. There have been some annoyances over the years but for the most part one just needs to adapt to their surroundings and adjust as needed to make things work.

Although I am 60-90% left handed I was apprenticed as a Joiner/cabinet Maker & quite easily adapted to use tools which were R/Handed ONLY! Also I play Flamenco Guitar(which, it has to be said, is a fairly complex skill!) Right-handed!I am also complimented upon the neatness of my handwriting often YET I am not afflicted with the usual leftie writing position of my hand over the top of the line BUT write with my hand position as per a R/Handed person…. I am now 65 years old but whether this has anything to do with my adaptability I could not comment upon but, I is what I is!

I am total left sided even playing football, I am left footed tennis and cricket all left I am also a twin we are very much alike almost identical but he is right handed.. when doing exam I could never sit next to someone who was right handed because we kept knocking each other. I always had to sit at the left end of the table. I also have rear blood group so I really am special . I never get the news letter for some reason e mail address bjvdeus@hotmail.com

  9. Ope says:

Hi, its good to be here. I am 70% left handed and I am proud of it. It feels a bit awkward saying it tho…lol

  10. Pat Smith says:

The most interesting quality of a left hander is the ability to adapt to all situations. The need to reverse everything mentally as well as physically is often an overwhelming task, but necessary to function in a right-handed world. This test did not account for this ability.
