This simple survey will tell you how left-handed you are and give you an overall score you can compare to the thousands of others who have taken the test.
You can see our analysis of the test results so far here.
So go ahead and tick the options for which hand you use for various things and see how you rate overall…
How left handed are you?
We all have our own view of whether we are left-handed or not and, ultimately, that is the the test - if you consider yourself to be left-handed then you are! That said, most people are mixed in their handedness and it is rare for people to do everything with just one hand or side of their body. Our test below will show which side you use for various tasks and how consistent you are in the use of your hands. It will also give you give you an overall score out of 100 for your level of left-handedness and you can see how you compare to other people. To get the overall score, we have weighted the various factors so, for example, writing left-handed gets a far higher weighting in the overall score than which way you hold a bat two-handed (see this page for more information on how we did this).
This is a good survey but I am wondering if the score weighting reflects the fact that most left handers would have had to learn to do things with their right hand as over the years. For example Scissors use. You just had to learn to cut with that right hand because there was no left handed scissors available. Thanks for having this site and doing this though; it’s very useful!
I learned early on how to use right-handed scissors with my left hand before I found out there were left-handed scissors available. I can use both, but the left-handed type (the RIGHT kind) are much easier to use. The OTHER kind leave a dent on my thumb where the handle is contoured the WRONG way!! LEFT-HANDERS RULE!!!!!!
I find it interesting how many people here use their right hand with scissors. My right hand feels so awkward that it never entered my mind to switch, even though using righty scissors with my left hand was often painful. Over the years, my muscle memory got so ingrained that today I cannot use lefty scissors. My thumb and fingers squeeze according to righties. If I have to cut a lot, my hand still hurts, but I can effectively.
Also, when I was in Little League baseball, I started out throwing left and batting right. I emulated my hero, Sandy Koufax. After a few years, I switched my batting swing to left-handed. In high school, I started playing golf, left-handed. After a few years, I found I could no longer bat left-handed though, because I tended to swing the bat in too low an arc, like a golf swing. So I switched to batting right-handed, which felt perfectly natural. But I can’t swing a golf club from that side. Weird.
I got an 88 but that is due to the scissor thing.
it is great to be left handed, in my family my wife and oldest son are both left handed. Our youngest is right handed and we always tell him sorry but you are learning the left handed way ;o)
Most people will hold a phone to their “wrong” ear if they need to take notes during the telephone conversation; if I don’t need to take notes then I’ll hold it to my left ear. Perhaps that means I would have scored 97.5% 🙂
I came up with 74%. However, I think there are some big flaws in this survey. They force you into choosing L or R for each answer, but in some cases, I use both. For instance, “Eye (using a telescope)” and “Clasp your hands behind your back” are things I do with either L or R equally.
I’m ‘mainly left handed’.
I’ve always used right handed scissors WITH my left hand. Everyone can right? Just that your cutting goes horrible:p Also I’m 21 and I still don’t know which hand to use in sports..
The scissors question threw me into the ‘mainly’ left-handedness rating…in my defense I must say that since left-handed scissors are so rare, I had to adapt, showing that left-handers can do ALL things well. Also if you are worried about playing musical instruments, almost all instruments are designed as double handed anyway so technically playing any instrument with the proper technique will, in no way, take away from the left-handedness of any player, besides we all recognize that the music/art center of the brain is in the ‘right’ hemisphere, making Left handers naturally Musical, hence my profession as a Music teach.
I’m certainly left-handed but since in the U.S. I play baseball us left handlers hold the bat with the left hand on top
96% left handed and proud.
I am dominate left footed when playing football but I use both feet, left for power, right for accuracy.
I eat right handed.
I am a left handed Everton fan born in London
