This simple survey will tell you how left-handed you are and give you an overall score you can compare to the thousands of others who have taken the test.
You can see our analysis of the test results so far here.
So go ahead and tick the options for which hand you use for various things and see how you rate overall…
How left handed are you?
We all have our own view of whether we are left-handed or not and, ultimately, that is the the test - if you consider yourself to be left-handed then you are! That said, most people are mixed in their handedness and it is rare for people to do everything with just one hand or side of their body. Our test below will show which side you use for various tasks and how consistent you are in the use of your hands. It will also give you give you an overall score out of 100 for your level of left-handedness and you can see how you compare to other people. To get the overall score, we have weighted the various factors so, for example, writing left-handed gets a far higher weighting in the overall score than which way you hold a bat two-handed (see this page for more information on how we did this).
I use RH scissors in my left hand. I have LH scissors, but I’ve been using RH ones for so long (I’m 69) that I can’t get on with LH ones at all, the paper always seems to get in the way. I also have a left handed tape measure, but again I’ve used a RH one for so long it’s just awkward. Mind you, it was great fun when I was at work to pass my LH one over to RH colleagues. “This ***** thing is upside down”. I always hold the tape in my right hand anyway, which leaves my left hand free to mark out with a pencil which is more accurate, you watch a right handed person using a right handed tape, and you have to wonder who designed it.
96% left handed! The only thing that went the opposite way was when I fold my arms. For some reason right ends up on top.
We didn’t have much for lefties when I was young, but I was so strongly left-handed that I learned to adapt to using right-handed scissors and the like.
Are left handed people more prone toward one political party or the other? Here is the U.S. they would be democrats and republicans. I’m a seriously left handed democrat !
Hi.I still use right handed scissors with my left hand that’s what I have done since I was a child as we had nothing for left handers in them days(Im now 57). I also use a can opener that’s right handed in my left hand even though I find these tasks difficult I find it harder to do it right handed. When I was a child I used to right backwards as well. I do everything left handed as was classed as slightly backward when younger. I cant help but think left handed all the time even at this age.
I confuse left and right concerning directions. I had a terrible time in the army !
I got 80% leftie. I’m left handed, but I can do everything pretty much the same with both hands. I start off doing things left handed and if I get tired I just switch to the right hand.
I would just like to mention that there are a few things where I put L becaus that is my inclinationl but actually it’s a bit of both L and R, only there wasn’t a box for that.
Namely: Scissors – I grew up using right-handed scissors, but started using left-handed ones as a teenager (once I got some), for a long time I found I was better at using scissors right handed but it felt more natural to use my left. Nowadays I can use either type of scissors depending on what I have to hand (I prefer left-handed scissors though).
For teethbrishing I have been taught/told one ought to use both hands, and switch over part way through teeth cleaning, so I do.
For hairbrushing I also find I get better results by switching hands partway through.
I use my right ear for the telephone because I can hear better with it, and similarly as my left-eye is lazy (had a squint in it as a child), and my right eye is my “good eye” I will use my right eye for a telescope etc.
Results end up being skewed. For example, I use my right hand/ear for the phone so I can have my left hand free to write messages and information. So, shouldn’t this mean I’m even more left-handed if I use my right ear?
I took the left handed test. I truthfully answered questions, but do not agree with my assessment. I grew up having to bat right handed because no one taught me how to bat left handed and wanted to fit in with the other boys. Not being an athlete I did not push myself to bat left handed. I consider myself a serious left hander and am proud to be a lefty!
I answer the phone with my left hand, but when jotting down a message etc I put the phone in my right hand, put it to my left ear which leaves my left hand for the scribbling bit. This can be a bit awkward, tried holding the phone to my right ear but it just didn’t feel right!
Also my sense of direction is a bit iffy sometimes.
