So go ahead and tick the options for which hand you use for various things and see how you rate overall…

How left handed are you?

We all have our own view of whether we are left-handed or not and, ultimately, that is the the test - if you consider yourself to be left-handed then you are! That said, most people are mixed in their handedness and it is rare for people to do everything with just one hand or side of their body. Our test below will show which side you use for various tasks and how consistent you are in the use of your hands. It will also give you give you an overall score out of 100 for your level of left-handedness and you can see how you compare to other people. To get the overall score, we have weighted the various factors so, for example, writing left-handed gets a far higher weighting in the overall score than which way you hold a bat two-handed (see this page for more information on how we did this).

  • Use of left hand

  • Other body parts

  • Left and right arm positions

  • Actions

Always been left handed. Droce my mother mad trying to teach me to do shoe laces and a neck tie.

  3. Mats Bergström says:

I was forced to learn how to write with my right hand, writing with the left hand was punished.
Now I can actually write with both hands even if my writing with my left is worse than with my right. My writing with the right hand is also quite bad. On the other hand I can start with my left when at a blackboard and then, when coming to the middle, continue with my right.

  4. George Weaver says:

We all live in a right handed world Anyone truly left handed would know this Don’t have a choice I worked construction for many years Tools and situations are difficult to handle I had to teach myself to play guitar right handed because of price and situations Truly a minority Love being left handed

  5. Aliki says:

Would also be good to add which hands do you hold your knife and fork in when eating as, although I’m mostly right-handed, I hold my fork in my right hand and knife in the left – can’t eat any other way!

  6. Shiv says:

I strongly feel that the side where flaps covering the zippers on trousers and openings on underpants are placed are meant to be convenient for right-handed people. Any other LH friends here feel the same?

  7. Amanda Maher says:

Thank you – great test. Can I suggest you need more ‘both’ options in your test as I use either hand for lots of tasks.

I am happy to participate in this!
I am surprised that most people don’t realize that even pencils are made for the right handed!
Hold one in your left hand (ready to write) and try reading what is written on the side of the pencil!

    • Shiv says:

I don’t think it is the pencils or pens, but I think someone who invented writing was right handed, so we write from left to right side of the page not right to left side.
I also think it’s the same reason why books are hinged on left side.

      • Mats Bergström says:

Remember that Arabic and Hebrew are written right to left, except numbers that are written left to right.
