So go ahead and tick the options for which hand you use for various things and see how you rate overall…

How left handed are you?

We all have our own view of whether we are left-handed or not and, ultimately, that is the the test - if you consider yourself to be left-handed then you are! That said, most people are mixed in their handedness and it is rare for people to do everything with just one hand or side of their body. Our test below will show which side you use for various tasks and how consistent you are in the use of your hands. It will also give you give you an overall score out of 100 for your level of left-handedness and you can see how you compare to other people. To get the overall score, we have weighted the various factors so, for example, writing left-handed gets a far higher weighting in the overall score than which way you hold a bat two-handed (see this page for more information on how we did this).

I was always told off for sloping backwards in school with my written work.
It was my way of not smudging my work .

  2. Sharon Radford says:

I am of a generation that frowned on being left handed. Teachers used to rap knuckles with a ruler to stop using left hand

    • Helen says:

I was the same. At primary school I would get into lots of trouble using my left hand. In the end my mum moved me to another school. I was allowed to do everything with my left hand

    • Shiv says:

In my country my left-handedness was used as a reason for bullying me in elementary school, just like any little handicap or weakness.

  3. Awoderu says:

I believe this group should and encourage left handed people and also let us kwon our potential, do and don’t etc

  4. Jeanna says:

There should be options for “either” – I have had no choice with some of these things growing up. There was no option for left handed scissors and people taught me bat sports right handed. Plus I practiced to be able to write with my right hand as well

  5. Allan Hunter says:

You need “neither” and “both” options, especially since your test won’t let me leave answers blank.

  6. Paul S. says:

Bowl, bat and golf right handed. Use scissors, computer mouse and TV remote right handed.

  7. Samantha says:

I scored 100% left-handed. It doesn’t surprise me since I really don’t do anything right handed.

  8. Gayle Smith says:

I scored 90% Had the most difficulty with writing as a child. Though I write with my left hand, it has never been neat or particularly uniformed. Everything else I adapted ways to use things. Always had issues with cutting out alcove shapes correct too. Example: if I was to cut an alcove shape out. I’m likely to cut it back to front, if that makes sense(inverted). However. I can read people plain as day, and can spot who’s honest and who’s not very easily. They say left people are artistic. I’m absolutely not. But i’ve always had a flair for writing and performing. Though never chose it as a living.

  9. Chris says:

    91%, happy with the score

  10. Walter says:

I scored 60 – 90 on the test. I am a proud lefty. When I was young and my parents and teachers were trying to teach me how to do things, it was difficult for them to show me any other way than as a right handed person does things. To them, this was the correct way no matter what hand is dominate. I learned to do a lot of things badly as a result. Throwing a ball, playing tennis among other things. I think that led to me being a bit ambidextrous as a result. I am still trying to fix what others have broken. LOL. It’s a left handed life after all. Righties wouldn’t understand.
