How left handed are you?

We all have our own view of whether we are left-handed or not and, ultimately, that is the the test - if you consider yourself to be left-handed then you are! That said, most people are mixed in their handedness and it is rare for people to do everything with just one hand or side of their body. Our test below will show which side you use for various tasks and how consistent you are in the use of your hands. It will also give you give you an overall score out of 100 for your level of left-handedness and you can see how you compare to other people. To get the overall score, we have weighted the various factors so, for example, writing left-handed gets a far higher weighting in the overall score than which way you hold a bat two-handed (see this page for more information on how we did this).

Ironically, I play baseball all lefty, but play golf righty. Very efficient at both sports but better at golf. Some have told me the reason I am good at golf right handed is that I have a strong/dominant left eye. My golf handicap has been as low as +3, have played to a scratch most of my life, but am beginning g to age and now losing distance and play to a 4 now.

Things like scissors are predominantly right handed, so you adapt at an early age. I spent ages learning to use a computer mouse with my right hand, which is great because it now allows me to write or use the phone at the same time.

Myself, my wife and all three of our children are left handed. What are the chances of all the members in one family being left handed? I don’t think I have ever meet a family like ours.

  4. Jack Siviour says:

I am left handed, but my right eye is dominant. Starting school in 1945 in south-east Cornwall, I was never under any pressure to become right handed.

Thankfully, my mother supported my left handedness when my teachers asked for permission to tie my left hand behind my back she said no firmly and stated if I ever came home and told her they tied my hand back she would do the same to them. I’m the only child out of 7 that is left handed, my father was the only one of my parents I’m not sure of grandparents. It was hard growing up without left handed tools, I so glad when they started becoming available to us.

I was taught to brush my teeth and tie my shoes by my right handed parents : ( I will never forgive them 😆

  9. Helen Singer says:

I accidentally clicked the wrong box twice and it would not let me correct it. This affected my score negatively.

  10. Patty says:

Im lefthanded, but I was taught in school 50 years ago to do all things right-handed.No matter how hard they tried to make me write right handed,I ALWAYS used my left hand. It was a very traumatic thing for me growing up. I’ve had to deal with dyslexia my whole life.
It’s kind of nice to be able to discuss these things in a left handed forum.
