This simple survey will tell you how left-handed you are and give you an overall score you can compare to the thousands of others who have taken the test.
You can see our analysis of the test results so far here.
So go ahead and tick the options for which hand you use for various things and see how you rate overall…
How left handed are you?
We all have our own view of whether we are left-handed or not and, ultimately, that is the the test - if you consider yourself to be left-handed then you are! That said, most people are mixed in their handedness and it is rare for people to do everything with just one hand or side of their body. Our test below will show which side you use for various tasks and how consistent you are in the use of your hands. It will also give you give you an overall score out of 100 for your level of left-handedness and you can see how you compare to other people. To get the overall score, we have weighted the various factors so, for example, writing left-handed gets a far higher weighting in the overall score than which way you hold a bat two-handed (see this page for more information on how we did this).
I am ambidextrous so have adapted to a right handed world. Competitive shooting, preferred left, forced right due to lack of left handed gun (still made the team) Grade one, wrote with both hands- started line with left, finished with right. There was a paper that stated that Ambidextrous is the same as left handed (mentally). After 60+ years habit overcomes nature, when I was younger, I’d have answered differently.
I was born on my uncle’s birthday, who was ambidextrous, I was taught ‘other hand’ when eating dessert to the extent I did not know left from right until I had a post WW2 teacher who always wacked the left’s knuckles with a 15inch ruler – fortunately I write right and draw left – great for technical drawing. I was a good hockey player in defence, but louse cricket and golf play as I play either hand badly.
For what it’s worth, for many of your quiz questions, my answer would have BOTH, but that was not an option. Also, there are many small things I know that I almost always do Leftie, and in some very few cases, I can only manage to do them right-handed with great difficulty (e.g., peel citrus fruits; knitting). I understand your quiz is not comprehensive. Thanks ?
Interesting survey
I was always told as a by my mum not to do something that way because I am “right handed”.
So I do a lot of things right handed but you don’t consider other things which I always do left handed such as using a mouse
Really I guess I am ambidextrous since I can use both hands and frequently swap between them without even thinking. Though if I have left handed tools I feel more comfortable
Left handed and proud! Even broke my left wrist as a child, but when the cast was taken off I went right back to my left hand.
Omterestimg
Interesting quiz.
I write left handed and do things involving fine movement with my left hand. My right hand I use for sports and where strength is required.
I always sew materials L handed but do surgical suturing L or R handed equally which has been very useful over the years!
Could do with a question about playing cards, after fanning out a hand I have to turn them over as the fan is otherwise upside down!
Happy and proud to be left handed. And I stay away from most power tools.
It took me years to learn why I couldn’t ever fan playing cards correctly!! And then I discovered 4 square cards at the left handers store in Dallas.

Being lefthanded swinging a bat your right hand is on the bottom. Clapping you lead either your left hand so your right hand is on top.
Great survey!
