So go ahead and tick the options for which hand you use for various things and see how you rate overall…

How left handed are you?

We all have our own view of whether we are left-handed or not and, ultimately, that is the the test - if you consider yourself to be left-handed then you are! That said, most people are mixed in their handedness and it is rare for people to do everything with just one hand or side of their body. Our test below will show which side you use for various tasks and how consistent you are in the use of your hands. It will also give you give you an overall score out of 100 for your level of left-handedness and you can see how you compare to other people. To get the overall score, we have weighted the various factors so, for example, writing left-handed gets a far higher weighting in the overall score than which way you hold a bat two-handed (see this page for more information on how we did this).

When I could pick anything to draw or color it went in my left hand. Back in the mid 60s my dad would take it out of my left hand and put it into my right hand. He would say there is no place in this world for left handed ppl. My mom was left handed. The only one out of 6 kids and parents. I was left handed my brother and sister were right handed. After dad made me use my right hand It only helped me to become ambidextrous. I have 2girls both left handed. My dad tried on my oldest to change her hand. I put a stop to that. To help a right handed person teach a left handed person. Stand in front of them like they are looking in a mirror.

I was one of those unfortunates that was made to use their right hand. But only in sports. You see, at an early age the other kids would not let me play baseball unless I both threw and batted right handed. I blame them for forcing me to use my weaker side and thus, never played professionally. A mixed hander, but not by choice.

I count myself as extremely lucky, why? I was born in the 1940s and neither of my parents ever tried to get me to use my right hand this also applied at school no-teacher ever bothered me so consequently I did not even realise I was left handed and ‘different than normal’. This has remained throughout my life. I only thing I use my right hand for is cutting with scissors

Please remember in your quizzes that a lot of us lefties had right-handed parents and teachers that taught us and insisted that we use our right hands. I may use kitchen utensils with my right hand, now, but as a child, I remember preferring using my left, and would frequently be told ‘use your other hand’. Thusly, I use my right hand more than I would have had I been allowed to use my left.

You can always tell people that there are more left-handed U.S. Presidents than the percentage of left-handers in general. It’s true! And I think the more recent lefty Presidents (Obama and Clinton) were better than many other Presidents, certainly not “sinister” in their attempts to improve the lives of their citizens. (I forget the names of others, but you can look online.)

  8. MH says:

Interesting that a South American called it that, but not surprising, since the Latin word for “left” is “sinister”.
Our cross to bear, I guess! Thank God we live in a more enlightened country. (sometimes, anyway…)

  9. Jeff Olsen says:

Upside down belt buckles are the worst. Gas and Brake are backwards, Swinging a hammer… using power tools… while I was in South America, someone saw me writing left-handed and said “mano de satanas” (hand of satan)..

I have a heck of a time sharpening my pocket knives. any suggestions?
