This simple survey will tell you how left-handed you are and give you an overall score you can compare to the thousands of others who have taken the test.
You can see our analysis of the test results so far here.
So go ahead and tick the options for which hand you use for various things and see how you rate overall…
How left handed are you?
We all have our own view of whether we are left-handed or not and, ultimately, that is the the test - if you consider yourself to be left-handed then you are! That said, most people are mixed in their handedness and it is rare for people to do everything with just one hand or side of their body. Our test below will show which side you use for various tasks and how consistent you are in the use of your hands. It will also give you give you an overall score out of 100 for your level of left-handedness and you can see how you compare to other people. To get the overall score, we have weighted the various factors so, for example, writing left-handed gets a far higher weighting in the overall score than which way you hold a bat two-handed (see this page for more information on how we did this).
The survey is far too simple, of course. Ordinal data is much preferred and isn’t hard to incorporate!
96% left handed although I think some of the questions are unfair.
I began learning the guitar last year.
Me. I’m really left handed.
Tutor. Yeah we hear that a lot. Learn it right handed at first.
Tutor. Half way through my second lesson when I first tried a LH guitar”Yeah. You’re left handed.
Me. Hmmn, ya think? I did tell you.
this is so odd. like I consider myself ambidextrous. I use my left for more fined tuned things. my right hand/side is just stronger? so heavier things like bats ect are always carried and used on that side. my right hand is clumsy though. also I at summer camp as a child used the left handed archery bow. the right one was always too difficult to use.
Very interesting
I am a musician and play my guitar right handed because when i started out as a kid the instructor said I needed to hold my guitar like a right hander. I didn’t know there were left handed guitars so I learned it that way.
I am 90% left. My school didn’t have left handed scissors so all my elementary teachers, who were all righties, made me learn to use “normal” scissors.
Kind of weird survey didnt know how to answer alot of the questions since i do everything with both but my brother is left handed and he was a pitcher so i had to learn to hit left handed and after that i just learned to do everything with my left hand or my right hand
40-60% Left but mixed handed. Surprisingly i was born right handed, but over time learned to use my left. But i can do basically everything with both hands.
Holding the phone question doesn’t work out well. As a lefty we often have to hold the phone with our right in order to write down info. Just as a righty would do the opposite… just saying
i wasn’t allowed to use my left hand to write or throw a ball when i started school so i just learned how to write and throw right handed. the older i got, i just shifted between right and left as needed, although i still favor my right hand to write. my family also would make fun of me when i would use a spoon or fork in my left hand and say i just wanted to be different!
I’m so mad. Instruments should be the same price for lefties. Like all you really need to do is make a few changes. Like, bro. I didn’t mean to me left handed. Blame that on my great grandma. She’s the only leftie apart from me
(Very nice woman she was. Lovely.)
