This simple survey will tell you how left-handed you are and give you an overall score you can compare to the thousands of others who have taken the test.
You can see our analysis of the test results so far here.
So go ahead and tick the options for which hand you use for various things and see how you rate overall…
How left handed are you?
We all have our own view of whether we are left-handed or not and, ultimately, that is the the test - if you consider yourself to be left-handed then you are! That said, most people are mixed in their handedness and it is rare for people to do everything with just one hand or side of their body. Our test below will show which side you use for various tasks and how consistent you are in the use of your hands. It will also give you give you an overall score out of 100 for your level of left-handedness and you can see how you compare to other people. To get the overall score, we have weighted the various factors so, for example, writing left-handed gets a far higher weighting in the overall score than which way you hold a bat two-handed (see this page for more information on how we did this).
100%! I’m actually the only left-hander in my family, other than my grandmother.
My score was 100%!!! But I have a really good question! If the right side of your back itches do you use your right or left hand? An even bigger question if you’re holding your phone in your left hand and the right side of your back itches do you put the phone down to scratch your back?
My earliest memory at school is being slapped for writing with my left hand.
I now write with my right hand – so am technically “right handed” – but I do everything else with my left hand!
And if I concentrate hard, I can still write using my left!
Why was this allowed to happen????
Curious. I was unable to mark most of the middle questions as doing with both hands.
Also, my husband noted when I bowl I throw the ball from my right hand but my ball responds like I’d be throwing it as a left hander.
I think that, in a word, I am a left hander by birth, trained to be a right hander (all but my writing) and still my brain has not ever caught up.
I work in industry and find that using “standard tooling”is wrecking my hands and arms .
I did the test and got 100% left handed, no surprise there! But I remember being at school and we would have to put our left hand behind our backs and were only allowed to use our right. I struggled with writing but eventually became quite good, as soon as I left school i returned to writing left handed. I never understood why we were made to do this and made to feel different than everyone else. I will not succumb to buying left handed gadgets for commercial gain and will struggle with right handed implements. I think it’s very unfair that everyday items we use, just like right handers, are for some reason more expensive. I know we are in the minority, but still!
Hello, I would add two questions more, which hand do you use to cut with a knife and which one to hold the mouse of your PC.
Thank you.
My score was 79% putting me into the 60-90%,left handed dominant.
While I consider myself to be both left and right in varying degrees.
The most unusual operation is when I cut with scissors it is predominantly with my right hand. However when I trim my beard in the mirror I have to use my left hand to successfully carryout the exercise, there is no way I can do it right handed.
Always be mindful of the fact- lefties get it right.
This takes into account mostly fine motor skills (which I understand are the most difficult). However, there are several sports I do left-handed, even though I write righty. I couldn’t skateboard pushing with my right leg, for example, to save my life – even though my son, who is a lefty, does. I can’t balance on my right leg (standing still) and I’m completely left-handed in gymnastics, which I did for years. I know that these are more gross motor skills, but still…
Just a tip, any board sports have no correlation with what foot you prefer to have as a front foot/ what hand you are dominant with. I’m left foot forward left handed and after years of snowboard instructing my statement still rings true
96%,I am really very left-handed and also redheaded. This combination is rare!!
